Thank you for this delightful story. Your writing and descriptions made me feel I was there, enjoying a view of times gone by - a welcoming barber shop where people are friendly and engage with one another. Nowadays, in many salons, no one talks to each other. Your son is lucky to have these experiences of a place uncommon in the world today and a mother who can so well capture the essence of the place to commemorate it.

Why do big wigs need barbering?

Thanks for sharing. Above all other institutions the barbershop stands out for me. From my first haircut, where my golden locks were left on the barber’s floor, making my mom very sad when my dad brought me home, hanging out at the barbershop was where I learned a lot. With a few exceptions, up until recently, only 3 barbers cut my hair, the last having lasted 34 years. Good times, good memories.

My Grandpa was a barber in a small town; this story paints a really accurate picture of life in that shop when I was a kid. Just another part of Real America that is being taken away.

Of course, Grandpa would never have stood for an 'asian lady' in his shop, and apparently the other female stylist is tired of it too. Good on her and even Baptists can put up with so much and are tired of the invasion.

There is nothing quite like an old-school small town barbershop. As I'm old (and cheap!), my wife cuts my hair now, but I've had a few of these in my past. I enjoyed your story, but what I'm really thanking you for is reminding me about those!
