It just got bigger & bigger. A few decades ago, it was a couple things. It seemed within the scope of need. It seemed ok. Now it's for everything & everywhere. Thanks for a fine piece!
Now they even request individual white boards with dry-erase markers--every student. Why is paper not sufficient? And why do we need post-it notes? Apparently everyone's just spending play money.
HOME SCHOOL! And I oughta know--I taught HS math in a few public schools..... And can public school teachers these days "do the math"? Uh..... Common Core says NO!
Yes, I was once a believer that Marxism, communism was our enemy - until I started to read, read, read about 15-20 years ago. Our enemy is DaSynagogue of Satan......but most folks don't believe it even exists. When you don't know yourself or who your enemy is......you lose every battle.
And BTW - you're not going to win the battle with public schools by keeping your children in them. They're literally run by DSOS.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Crush. You are right, the enemy is Satan (and our own sin nature); but that enemy wears many different faces, and they must be named. There are many faces--things like communism, socialism, celebrity worship, LGBTQ culture, globalism, the pornography industry, and the cult of self--and most of us have private sin struggles that go unnamed. My children are in not in regular public schools; they are in a private school and a Hillsdale charter school. To your point, though--the charter school panders a bit to the city's constituency, which creates some tension. I homeschooled for several years and agree that it allows the most flexibility and depth; unfortunately, many parents are poor students themselves, making them less than ideal teachers.
Yes, RT - the education of children of Christian families is not a simple cut and dry matter. Too many variables - never mind public schools - many questions need to be asked about private schools:
Who's doing the teaching?
What books are being used?
What theology is being taught?
Sending your children to a private or 'Christian' school is NOT assurance of anything. It all comes down to your OWN ability to PROVE ALL THINGS!
My own experience? Prior to about 20 years ago, I was essentially an average American mobot - believed everything I was told. Wow - has that changed - www.crushlimbraw.com - learned that most everything I knew was bullshit and propaganda - kind of stings your ego. And yet, my old buddies who are still alive think I'm insane - they simply cannot comprehend what you learn by READING.
Which leads me to your last sentence about teaching.
The best teachers are those who are themselves learing because they have a desire to do so - the absolute worst are the credentialed professionals who haven't learned a danged thing since being credentialed!
I personally know some, including a director of a Christian school - hopeless!

Don't forget mandatory volunteering is required for all kids now.
But wait! There's a new game in town...
- The school lists kept getting bigger and bigger,
- Heaven forbid your child missed an item on the list.
- Solution? Just give the lists to the local Office XYZ store.
- There the student can state, I'm entering grade 5 in Miss Jones' class.
- The office store has a bag waiting for you.
- All you do is pay.
- Why would the school make things so convenient?
- Why, kickbacks of course!
- Who said the communists weren't enterprising?
Meanwhile, all the supplies continue to yield lower test scores and too many ignorant graduates.

RT - Our enemy is NOT Marxism - https://crushlimbraw.blogspot.com/2021/03/in-essenceit-always-wasand-still-isa.html?m=0 - Marxism is just a front.
The whole scenario is much more subtle - https://crushlimbraw.blogspot.com/search?q=Gary+north+cultural+Marxism&updated-max=2022-02-28T09:50:00-08:00&max-results=20&start=0&by-date=false&m=1 - a list of headnotes to articles on the subject from a word search in DaLimbraw Library.

There is only one option - homeschool!
